As we were scoping this location out, we were lucky enough to have a great horned owl peering at us from a nearby tree, hence the cache title. In addition, we saw a weasel (unfortunately, it was deceased), several turkey feathers (not attached to turkeys) and eight deer in the field across the street (they were all alive). So keep your eyes open for wildlife and report any wildlife sightings in your log!
This sweet little piece of DNR land wraps around the southwest corner of Smith Lake. I’m not sure what this land was before, but to the south of the cache (and still on DNR land) is some old, smashed outdoor furniture, a fire pit and an outhouse with a view of the lake.
There is a small parking lot available close to cache site. You are searching for a 35mm film canister. Terrain rating applies to the last 30 or so feet.
The Geocache Notification Form has been submitted to Kettle Moraine-Northern Unit of the Wisconsin DNR. Geocaches placed on Wisconsin Department of Natural Resource managed lands require permission by means of a notification form. Please print out a paper copy of the notification form, fill in all required information, then submit it to the land manager. The DNR Notification form and land manager information can be obtained at: (visit link)
May all your caches today be Hootie Hoo’s!!
