Geocache Description:


Lake Lyell.

Caution this area has some steep sides off the round boulders. Please use caution when seaching the area. There is an easy way onto the boulder that the cache is located on.

Lake Lyell provides cooling water for both Wallerawang and Mt Piper Power Stations. The Lake is connected to Wallerawang Lake by pipeline (visit link) and hence to Wallerawang and Mt Piper Stations. Water for cooling is pumped from Lake Lyell Dam on the Cox's River, about 20 kilometres from the power station to the Thompsons Creek Dam, close to Mt Piper, which provides an additional 27,000 mega litres of cooling water.

There some great views from the cache location and one can find an easy way up if you follow thw dish drain, to the ants nest then turn up the hill.
