SQ - Ty-tanic Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

-allenite-: As there's been no response from the cache owner to my previous note, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. Please note that if geocaches are archived by a reviewer or Geocaching HQ for lack of maintenance, they are not eligible for unarchival.

Geocache Description:

The SQ in the cache name above signifies Spirit Quest, a project to distinguish those caches that are set in cemeteries or memorial gardens. We feel this is a good distinction to put on this type of cache and we like to do these types of caches. Please be respectful of the area, and observe their rules and posted hours. Michigan law states that you are only permitted to visit cemeteries dawn to dusk throughout the state unless other hours are posted.

The RMS (Royal Mail Steamer) Titanic was thought to be un-sinkable. When it left on it's maiden voyage it had 2223 people on board. On the night of April 14, 1912 it hit an iceberg and sank within 2 hours and 40 minutes. A total of 1517 people died that night.

The posted coordinates will take you to one of the 706 survivors of the sinking of the Titanic.
Michael Peter "TY" Joseph was born May 11, 1907. He lived to see his 84th birthday.

On the night of the disaster, Michael became separated from his mother and younger sister. After the Titanic sank, he saw a great number of icebergs in the water, a scene that haunted him for the rest of his life. He was reunited with his mother and sister onboard the RMS Carpathia, the only ship to arrive to assist in rescuing the survivors.

He was dubbed 'Ty' by the nuns at his school who had learned of his close escape. He worked as a delivery man for a soft drink company for many years. He lived the rest of his life in Detroit, got married and raised a family.

Michael never liked to discuss the Titanic disaster, but would do so occasionally with his grandson.

On his gravestone is a picture that needs to be seen.

To get to the final location you need to look at the reverse side of the headstone. Count all of the letters. Then count all of the CHILDREN you see on this side. Multiply these two numbers together and add the sum to the following coordinates:
N 42° 35.227
W 82° 55.956
You now can go find the final container.

You will need to bring a writing utensil to sign the log.

Congratulations to Rattrak & Brummelbear on the shared FTF
