A nice walk in the Te Tapui Scenic Reserve.
After finding the carpark on Piakonui Rd, take the fairly easy & pleasant bush walk to the top of Maungakawa (altitude aprox 500m asl). There are 2 options, 2-3 hours which heads around the southern side or the 1 hour option which heads straight up. These signposted times are very generous. At the top is a viewing tower with good views of the Kaimai Range and the Firth of Thames (when its clear).
