A camo'd tin along a paved walking trail in Kill Creek Park. Room for a few coins. Bring your own pen. The lot at Shelter 1 is the closest parking.
This is a Johnson County Parks & Recreation District park located in western Johnson County between De Soto and Olathe. It is the newest and third regional park in the District’s system. Opened in 2001, the park, easily accessible and yet secluded, encompasses 884 acres. Nestled within the park's beautiful natural setting are four picnic shelters, a swimming beach, a marina, and 17 miles of trails including hiking, mountain bike and equestrian trails and an asphalt trail for walking, hiking and bicycling. This cache is placed with District permission.
The Kill Creek Park entrance is located near 116th and Homestead Lane. To get to the park, get off of Kansas Highway 10 at the Kill Creek exit and proceed south to 115th Street. Turn right and go to Homestead Lane. Take a left onto Homestead and the park entrance is on the right near the crest of the first hill. Park hours are 5am to 11pm for March through October and 7:30am to 8pm for November through February.
Up the creek to the east of this location, one can see what appears to be a wrecked boat among the brush and debris lining the creek. We can only wonder about the story behind how that type of boat could end up in such a place on a creek of this size. If anyone knows or can find out, please e-mail us so we can post it here.
Ticks, PI and snakes may or may not be a factor with this cache.
There is an unactivated 2007 Kansas Sunshine geocoin in this cache for the FTF.
JANUARY 15, 2012 Update: Couldn't spot the boat from the bridge. Seems unlikely the undergrowth covered it this time of year. Did it get hauled away?
