Ammo box in an area that's nice enough you should take a picnic!
Willie Duke was the older brother of Washington Duke of tobacco and university fame. Willie (aka Uncle Billy), however, was no magnate. He was a lay preacher, and rumor has it that he used to practice his sermons on a bluff overlooking the lower Eno River. This cache is at Willie Duke's Bluff.
The cache area and the approach to it are quite beautiful, especially in the springtime. Since it's a north-facing slope with diabase intrusions, plants grow there that are not common in our area. Two are Dutchman's breeches and Isopyrum.
Please tread lightly when you are searching for the cache. Avoid sliding around on the hillside and causing erosion in this special place.
When the cache was first hidden, there was no good trail nearby. Now, however, the Mountains to Sea trail takes you right to the top of the bluff, and all you have to do is figure out a good way to get from there down to where the cache is.
Since you will be in NC gamelands, do take the usual precautions (go on Sunday or wear blaze orange during deer season, maybe also during turkey season, and whatever else you usually do).
Where to park? I'm listing the Penny's Bend parking coords, but you may find another spot nearby that you like better.
