This is a short circular easy route in pleasant countryside, around the village of Mavesyn Ridware. The cache is a small plastic push-lid box, with a few goodies, FTF badge and “Benjie” the TB.
It takes in 3 caches :-
Oak
Chestnut
Hawthorn
There is available parking for 2 or 3 cars by the church in Mavesyn Ridware at co-ordinates given below.
Mavesyn Ridware contains two notable buildings: the parish church dedicated to St Nicholas and the Gatehouse of the former ancient Manor House. "Mavesyn" is derived from the French "Malvoisin" which was the name of the Norman family who acquired the local estate following the Norman conquest in 1066. The Church contains many monuments to members of this family and to their successors the Cawardens and the Chadwicks. The gatehouse is timber framed with a later brick and stone skin. Dendrochronology on the timber has established that the building was erected in 1391/2.
The description assumes an anti-clockwise route along Church Lane, plenty of blackberries here in early summer.
You reach a well trodden field boundary entry path at N52°45.100, W001°52.393 and go via. Oak and Chestnut.
From the cache carry on Church Lane south and as you approach the Mavesyn Ridware sign you get the only view of the ELUSIVE 4th TOWER.
Back to the car and here you can pick up the first hint to "Sitting Bull" - a <2ml circular, easy but interesting, multi - to finish the morning.
