Use parking off Prospect Point RD in the wide dirt shoulder for a walk on wondering woods roads leading down to Lake Hopatcong's shoreline and start of old stone road going to the island. All sorts of terrain depending upon approach and water level.
Liffy Island wildlife Preserve is TWP open space and situated close to the lake's shoreline. During drought or winter draw down the old stone road is dry and crossable. In the warmer months the 200-foot stone crossing is apx 24 inches below the water estimated by the water lines on the rocks at the shoreline. This 3-inch mouth tube is situated around a ledge area that faces the cove side of the island. I found the last remains of a summer cottage, water well and root cellar while exploring. Lake crossing to the island is also achieavable on the ice or with boat by putting in at the beach at the end of Jerry Rd that is off the end of North Lakeside Ave. ( It looks like a driveway but turns into a dirt road going down to the water.) When wading by way of stone road, I recommend shoes and a good walking stick This is one of thoes caches that depending upon lake conditions can be a memorable one...TQ
