Is this "Snodgrass"?
I'm not all that familiar with California flora and fauna, as I
grew up in northern NY State where we have only 2 extreme seasons
(11 months of winter and one month of mosquitos and humidity).
Based on the name of this trail, I was looking high and low for an
example of, what I was told was, the endangered "Snodgrass". All
that I saw while on my hands and knees in this vast park were huge
expanses of spring wildflowers and some charred bushes from the
September 2007 fire.
As with all caches in this area, it is a serious, and
potentially dangerous, multi-day trek for 51 weeks of the year. If
you're here during the annual "Backcountry Weekend" you'll still
need to plan carefully, including water supply and good navigation
skills as the trails are not well marked around here! (The "5"
Terrain Rating is for the other 51 weeks of the year for
backpackers from Dowdy Ranch or Coe HQ.)
