The MIDTOWN HIKE & BIKE Trail is a Rails-to-Trials conversion project which consists of 4.62 miles of a 10-foot wide, concrete, multi-use hike and bike trail along the old MKT/SP railroad tracks which at one time carried the old Heights Trolley Line. The trail runs from 26th Street to 7th Street, and from Shepherd along 7th Street, to Spring Street and White Oak Bayou under I-45, where it connects to the Heritage Corridor West Trail providing a connection to the University of Houston and other downtown bikeways and destinations.
The trail travels through The historic Heights, connects to Lawrence Park, Stude Park and the downtown bikeways which tie in to Buffalo Bayou, Minute Maid Park downtown and the historic East End.
The trail includes landscaping with native trees and standard street lighting along the trail.
Places to visit include the Art Car Museum, White Oak Bayou, the historic Heights, the Heights Library, and several caches in the area.
Parking is available in several places along the route. Most of the caches are paiinted pill bottles containing some trinkets, a log and pencil.
This cache is placed about 7 feet high, so bring a milk crate or a tall friend.
