Geocache Description:

The Grovely Golden Cache is what it says, a securely hidden large golden chest, well ammo box, packed with goodies and of course a log book, also camera to record your visit if you wish. You can only retrieve this cache by completing some of the Grovely Ring series of caches,

The co-ordinates given above relate to one of the parking places near the start of the Grovely Ring Series, not the location of the Golden Cache itself. Don’t feel constrained to start here, as access is possible from Hanging Langford via the Hollows footpath and from Baverstock; plus loads of other place if you want a really long walk.

When walking the Ring series each cache contains a vital bit of information, a value of A to E. As these values are repeated several times over the series, in theory you could have the required information with only 5 finds, although unlikely unless you are prepared to do much homework before you start. Failing that, depending on your chosen route, if its not your lucky day, it could take as many as 17 finds; good luck.

In order to find this Golden cache you must collect the values of A, B. C, D & E. from the lids or log sheets within the series caches. If you want to do this Golden cache with the minimum number of finds on the ring that is possible by studying cache listings. Each listing contains a single clue to which letter is contained within a given cache; however, that process may take you a considerable time, possibly longer than walking the ring itself which is about 4 hours on a good day. Be warned boots are advisable. Some paths and tracks are steep in places for short distances and can be very muddy and rutted, particularly in the winter or after heavy rain.

All Ring caches are place on or within a few feet of a public footpath, bridleways, etc. You should not need to climb fences or stiles, although you will need to open and close the occasional field gate; this is all legal as it’s a public right of way but be careful if cattle or sheep are grazing. You will also cross relatively quiet public roads on a couple of occasions so please be very careful if you have children and dogs along.

The Golden cache is located at:

N51º 0(A+E). (C+D)(E-D-B)E W001º 5(B+C+D).DE(B+C)

When you have found the cache please hide the container well, in theory as you should find it.
