Small circular walk in Radstock should take around 1 hour to
complete. Some of the caches can be completed individually as cache
and dash. The circular walk will take you along the old railway
line (now the cycle path), up along Coombend and then up and over
the Roman Road Fosse Way. The walk offers some lovely views.
In each of the 6 containers you will find part of the
co-ordinates for the bonus cache part 7.
PART 2 - This one is up on the top path, you may have been here
before! Please re-hide cache well.
The Fosse Way is fairly quiet and peaceful with only dog walkers
and the farmer in his tractor to be seen. There is lot of history
in Radstock and a trip to the Radstock Museum is a good bet if you
want to find out more. The main industry was coal mining with the
last pit closing in the 1970s, the train lines played a big part in
this and there is also a lot of history available for the Roman
Road. The Fosse Way stretches from Exeter to Lincoln, almost in a
straight line and can be picked up at Clandown and from there it
passes between the twin towns of Midsomer Norton and Radstock. It
is advisable to take a map as the start of the Roman Road can be
difficult to find. I have included the coordinates of the start of
the road in the additional waypoints to help out. Whichever
direction you decide to come from, you will need to climb a fairly
steep hill. It can get very muddy and slippery after it has rained
so please take care. If the series is to be completed in order, the
suggested parking is in the lay by on Somervale Road at N51.17.439
W002.27.692 however this is a very busy road, so please be careful
when crossing. There is also a free car park at Linear Park Cycle
and Walkway not far away but this is not the starting point of the
series.
