Please obey all signs and walk around the playing fields. This cache brings you back to a Queensbury Gem the Ridge Jenkinsville Park Enjoy. Bring your own pen.

"Melanerpes carolinus" AKA Red Bellied Woodpecker ID: black & white barring on back; white patches on rump & topside base of primaries; reddish tinge on belly. Male: red forehead, crown & nape. Female: red on nape only. Juvenile: dark gray crown; streaked breast Size: L 9 - 10 1/2in W 16in Status: Common year round resident, localized in the Genesee Vally -Finger lakes region; breed from April to June Habitat: mature deciduous woodlands; occasionally in wooded residential areas. Nesting: in a cavity; female selects one of several nest sites excavated by the male; pair may use a natural cavity or the abandoned cavity of another woodpecker; pair incubates 4 - 5 white eggs for 12 -14 days; both adults raise the young.
