Geocache Description:

A cache near Nympsfield Long Barrow with fantastic views - arguably one of the best views in the South West of England.

This cache is hidden out of site at a well visited local beauty spot. There will undoubtedly be two and four legged muggles about but the cache is located in an area tucked out of sight and can be covertly accessed following a glance over your shoulder before disappearing from view!

There is ample free parking and the views are fantastic. On a summers day, particularly at weekends, there is likely to be an ice cream van. Also take in the Long Barrow ancient burial ground which you can walk in and around.

This neolithic burial chamber dates back to about 2900 BC. The site was excavated in 1937 and 1974 and has since been partly restored. The barrow was constructed using local limestone, which incorporated burial chambers formed by a combination of large stone slabs and dry stone walling. Remains of at least 16 skeletons were found in the chambers! The Nympsfield long barrow is just one example of a neolithic "Cotswold-Severn" chambered tomb of which nearly one hundred are known in the Cotswold region.

The cache is the size of a small sandwich box in a camouflage bag so room for swaps and TB's. Please don't leave pens or pencils as swaps as these can get a bit boring.

We have sent our pirates treasure coin on its travels from this cache.

I suggest you do this one during the hours of daylight. Beautiful by day but some 'unusual' muggle activity at night!! Recently moved to a new location having been muggled. Please ensure it is well covered when you leave.

Happy hunting.
