Geocache Description:

The cache is located at a very not well known mine shaft in Union Bay. Make sure that no one follows you!
We do NOT recommend going into the mine, as there are rotting timbers, and we're not 100% sure if it's stable.

In 1965, just near the end of the coal mining era, Robert Dunsmuir commissioned James Peterson to survey mining prospects. He discovered this area, which he believed would be a good place to mine for coal. After testing for coal, and finding that there was some, Dunsmuir allowed Peterson to build a mine shaft. He began mining the coal, using only pit ponies, versus the machinery which was becoming more and more popular. When Peterson discovered a small gold seam in the mine, he quickly shut it down, telling the workers that there was poisonous gas in the mine. Peterson was greedy and wanted to mine all the gold himself. But, one day no one saw him again. Friends and Family who knew that he was still going to the mine that he built believed that he died in there, but all of them were too scared to venture into the mine to find out for themselves.

So, as we said... going into the mine is not recommended.

Please take the time to read the first page of the logbook to find out what really happened to James Peterson. Please don't spoil the answer in your log.
