Port Breakwater

The engineer for this project was C.Y. O'Connor and the first stones were tipped by Sir John Forrest on 27th April 1897. The first stage followed a basalt reef to a length of 976m and it was extended to 1753m in stages by 1987. At least 14 ships were wrecked in Koombana Bay before this breakwater was constructed. The cost for the project was 116,705 pounds.
