Geocache Description:

Frogs are amazing creatures. There are quite a variety of them in Western New York including green frogs, pickerel frogs, bull frogs, chorus frogs, gray tree frogs and spring peepers among others. Each frog has a distinct call and in the springtime they can be quite noisy as they call for their mates.

The area of the cache has always been our favorite place for spring peepers, a tiny tree frog with a distinctive "X" on its back. These small frogs can be deafening here during mating season (springtime).

The cache was placed with permission from the buffalo Audubon Society. The trails at the nature center are open 24/7. Stop in to the Visitor Center while here. The Center is open Tuesday-Saturday 9-5 and Sunday 1-5.

This is a family friendly cache. No tricky hiding spots or twists. It is meant to show you a fun spot where the frogs hang out and for the family to enjoy a hike in the woods together. The cache is located just off the trail by about 30 feet. The honeysuckle can be treacherous in this area so be careful what path you take in to the cache and as always tread lightly. This is a nature preserve after all.

Log your frog sightings while doing this cache at www.frogwatch.org to help these sensitive amphibians. Because frogs breath through their skin, they are sensitive to environmental contaminants. Like the canaries in the coalmines, frogs are indicators of trouble in our wetlands. Visit www.frogwatch.org to find out more.
