Geocache Description:

Part of a series of 7 caches centred around the former Garrington Works site (now a residential development).

13/06/16 : New cache, new location and new name!

Suggested parking: Rutherford Road (13/06/16 : or potentially a C&D now the new housing development has created direct access!)

Garringtons were manufacturers of drop, upset and precision forgings, and manufacturers of hand tools, induction heating equipment, precision turbine blades and railway buffers and couplings.

Originally John Garrington & Sons, Ltd., the company was founded in 1837 and was a family run business until it was taken over by the GKN Group in 1919 (GKN had already taken over the forging works in 1912).

Unfortunately, hard times befell the company, and the Garringtons site in Bromsgrove closed in 2002 to be replaced over the next few years by Breme Park housing estate.

A memorial garden to Garringtons can be found in Newton Square, at the entrance to the housing estate. This park area actually uses the famous gates with the Garringtons 'G', which were saved from the original site.

Heading out of the former Garrington Works into the countryside.
