Geocache Description:

Before you start your hike be sure to hydrate yourself and your pets ... and bring a writing utensil to sign the log.

This cache marks the Mendoza Ranch entrance to the Coyote Lake-Harvey Bear Ranch county park, one of many fine Santa Clara County parks that's good for hiking, biking, and, of course, geocaching.

To get to the Mendoza Ranch entrance - From U.S. Highway 101 in Gilroy, take the Leavesley Road exit. Proceed east on Leavesley Road 2 miles to New Avenue. Proceed north on New Ave. .5 miles to Roop Road. Proceed east on Roop Road 3.5 miles into the foothills. Turn left into the park. Parking is free!

Coyote Lake County Park was established on the west side of Coyote Lake Reservoir, east of the city of Gilroy in 1969. This park has successfully provided boating, fishing, and camping recreation to the citizens of Santa Clara County for many years. In 1998, the park grew to a size of 4,448 acres through the acquisition of the Harvey Bear ranch, and the adjacent 711 acres of the Mendoza Ranch, to become the second largest park in the Santa Clara County Parks system. The park is now called Coyote Lake-Harvey Bear Ranch County Park.
