Since the early 1900’s Powelltown has been home to major timber production operations.
The virgin Mountain Ash forest that the early settlers discovered here was very quickly recognised as valuable, and logging began around 1890.
At the cache location you will find a Winch that was used to haul the timber up the Tramways inclines.
This winch would have been enclosed in a winch house with cables extending out and down the incline.
There is also an information sign at the location that you may like to read, as it contains some very interesting history.
The container is a 2 litre Sistema.
