You're heard of MEGA-EVENTS? This World Wide Flash Mob (WWFM) is
quite the opposite in a variety of ways. Come be part of this
historic micro event! Only 15 minutes long! There will be scores of
other events with thousands of other geoacahers all coordinated to
happen at the same time to bring together geocachers for a fun and
unique event and to introduce others (muggles) to the fun of
geocaching. Check out the bookmark list this event is on to see all
the other scheduled WWFM V events.
This event will be held at the Johnstown Incline Plane Observation
Deck which is an open public space. The event will be highly
organized and facilitated by volunteers. The event will begin
precisely at 1:00 pm EST (as determined by the GPS clock) on May 2,
2009. You MUST be present and sign a log sheet DURING this time to
claim the event.
For WWFM V we are going to make our presence know by putting up
UMBRELLAS right at 1:00 – rain or
shine.
Minute by minute itinerary:
12:45 - 12:59 Mill about and mosey. Be nonchalant and
casual. Look like a muggle. Don't look like a gathering waiting to
happen. This is part of the fun. We will seem to appear out of
nowhere. Make sure to keep your
UMBRELLAS down or even out of sight
in the moments leading up to the event.
1:00 The event will begin! At this point, all geocachers
will converge, seemingly coming out of "nowhere" and put up their
UMBRELLAS.
One volunteer will hand out "log sheets" / giveaway slips (same
sheet) – make sure to grab one. Participants will sign the log
sheets (which will later become a log book) to qualify for
attendance and drop them in the designated container. Please
BYOP! (Bring your own pen) Each caching name or group should
indicate the number in their group for WWFM V statistics. Only
those participants whose names appear on the log sheets may log the
event.
If any muggles are curious about the event we will have a
volunteer hand out fliers that explain geocaching.
1:00 - 1:06 Mingle. Share stories. Brag. Trade TBs via the
swap container. Take pictures. Sign the log (sheets) – they are
your prize drawing slips. CITO the local area!
1:06 Meal - Enjoy the official "meal" of Rainbow
candies. Be sure to CITO your wrappers!
1:08 Group Photo - Assemble FAST and listen to the
photographer for directions. We'll want to show off our
UMBRELLAS but not block faces.
1:12 Prize Drawing - Includes a WWFM V geocoin and
some other trackable items.
1:14 One minute warning is called. Prep to leave, but don't
"look" like you are prepping.
1:15 EXACTLY Wait for it ... then LEAVE the area
without a trace (right at 1:15 in a disorderly manner / different
directions). The (hopefully empty) bucket for TBs will be packed
up. The log sheet collection container will be packed up and
sealed. We will leave the area to go ... elsewhere (see below for
post-event plans).
Events and activities that happen after 1:15:01 do not count as
part of THIS event.
I'm sure there will be several muggles nearby who will wonder
"What did I just see? What just happened?" That's part of the
fun!
Tell your friends and help promote the event!
Suggestion: COME EARLY TO FIND PARKING. If you can't find parking
you might miss the event!
If you plan to attend please log so with the "Will Attend" option.
Place this event in your WATCH LIST to receive updates.
Note: The event will be officially over at 1:15. Afterwards,
participants are welcome to get together at City View Bar &
Grill (just next to the incline plane) where we can meet, chat,
eat, and plan for more caching!!! Please note in your log if you
think you will be able to come to this post-event so we can plan
accordingly.
