My very first cache on April 22nd of 2004 was "Quacking Up By the
Slough" by RustyTLC. I apparently got hooked.
Some of my favorite early caches were by Rusty and # 1 on that list
was "Indiana Jones and the Fortress of Doom." I noticed that
that cache was archived several months ago and I was determined to
reclaim this spot for the wonderful world of Geocaching. This cache
is in almost exactly the same place as the original. Park at the
water tank by Huffaker Hills (see waypoint below) and make your way
south on the trail for almost a mile. You can stay on the trail
until you reach the obvious fort about 60 feet from the cache. Make
your way South East from the fort to an obvious group of rocks. The
cache is under one of the larger rocks deep in a large cavity. You
can see the cache while looking North. See the hint for even more
help if you need it.
Like the original "Indiana Jones and the Fortress of Doom"
cache, this is extremely Kid Friendly. Kids love the
fortress and the swag in the cache is definitely oriented towards
kids. The walk is on a good path until the last 60 feet and it
isn't difficult or scary after that.
This cache is part of a series dedicated to those of you who get up
in the middle of the night or in the wee hours of the morning to
snag first to finds. Those of you who consider yourselves hounds
and hares will certainly appreciate this cache. It is my hope that
this will also create some new caches for all of us to find.
There is a First to Find Trophy in the cache. If you
are the First to Find you MUST agree to take the trophy and put it
in a new cache that you place and publish within two weeks from the
date of your find (Note – extenuating circumstances will be
considered). The new cache should be called “FTF - Tag you are it!
# 19.” The new cache should have the same requirements as this one
and lead to “FTF - Tag you are it! # 20.” You get the pattern. Your
new cache can be any type of cache that you want.
Please do not even attempt to be FTF unless you are willing to
continue the string. Failure to continue the string (or at least
give a good excuse) will lead to your log being deleted.
There are no special logging requirements for subsequent finders.
This cache is in all other respects a normal cache placed in a cool
spot with a good view. It is stocked with a variety of kid’s swag.
There is an unactivated 2007 GBES Navigational Rally Geocoin in the
cache for the FTF or for whoever wants it.
