I have wanted to place a cache here since I started caching. Finally, it's here! It is on the property of Deer Valley Resort, by permission. For anyone who knows the resort, you have probably just figured out where the cache is by the name alone. Yes, the cache is HANGING out with the hibernating bear. :-)
The adventure will be getting to the cache. The easiest way is to ski Deer Valley during the winter which of course requires special equipment and a 5 terrain rating. If you have a Utah driver's license, you can also get good deals at deerlocals.com. If you don't ski, then wait for the snow to melt, by June most years, and hike up the grass. That will bring the terrain rating to about a 3.5 because it is steep for a hike. If you choose to hike, you can walk on ski trails the whole way there. You never have to enter the woods until the very end where they are cut to be entered. If you walk more than about 100 ft in woods, you took the long way!
If you decide to ski to it, please be careful of muggle activity. Between the end of spring breaks and the last day the resort is open has the lowest muggle activity with good snow. During the first couple of weeks of the season there is also low muggle activity but there may not be enough snow to ski to it. There are other low points throughout the ski season. At the height of the season, avoid going after the cache between 10:15am and 3:15pm when you are most likely to run into large groups of little muggles. If you do get caught getting the cache, the area should make it pretty easy for you to disguise what you are doing. If anyone in green expresses concern about your activity, tell them the cache was placed with permission of the Director of Children's Programs (initials CJ, I don't want to post her name publicly).
Readings will be affected by trees near the site. Be patient and move slowly. It is possible to get clear readings in there. Please don't attempt to enter the structure. You are looking for a Mighty Mega container. Snow is not a problem for finding this one. If you get stuck, read the cache page carefully. There is a clue. If you are really stuck, then try the hint. It's still going to take a little thought. Gotta earn those two stars :-) Enjoy the location and the beauty of the surrounding woods! Hope you had fun getting to this one!
