Greatland Reviewer: Hello:

This cache page has been archived due to the lack of response to one or more prior Reviewer Note(s) about issue(s) with the cache. If the owner would like to have the cache unarchived, please contact me through my profile as soon as possible before another cache gets placed nearby.

Please note that unarchiving a cache page requires it to go through the same review process as a newly proposed cache, using the cache placement guidelines currently in effect.

Geocache Description:

Parking is near the cache on the ocean (makai) side of the highway. a‘a lava is the terrain which is razor sharp so bring at least shoes, long pants and gloves in case you fall. Helmet, band-aids and knee pads optional.

TinCupHunter says it best about the terrain, "It rolls like marbles but cuts like knives."

The cache is a normal sized cache and as I've warned in the short description is in a lava field of razor sharp a‘a lava (this is the jagged type lava, not the smooth flowing type). Some geocachers have gotten sliced on this stuff so be careful going out and coming back in.

There may be animal carcasses (pigs/goats) near/at the parking area. Not sure if it's hunters dropping carcasses here or could be road-kill deposited here. So be prepared for a ghastly sight/smell sometimes or piles of bones.

The 1859 lava flow is the longest lava flow in the State of Hawaii. It stretches 32 miles and originates on Mauna Loa and ends at the ocean in the Kiholo area. The flow took 8 days to make it to the ocean. It destroyed fishponds and villages on it's way to the ocean. For more information: (visit link)
