Bolo to 2.5.2000, ked americká vláda uvolnila
používanie GPS signálov pre verejnost. Išlo vlastne o
odstránenie vnášania umelej nepresnosti do GPS signálov
vysielaných zo satelitov. Nasledujúci den môžeme
považovat za zrod geocachingu.
3.mája 2000 totiž Dave Ulmer (GPS nadšenec) sa
rozhodol otestovat presnost uvolnených GPS signálov.
Myšlienka bola jednoduchá: schovat nejakú schránku v
prírode, priradit im zamerané GPS súradnice a potom podla nich
schránku nájst. Tak 3.mája uložil prvú schránku s perom a
ceruzkou v lesoch blízko Beaver Creek, (štát Oregon) blízko
Portlandu na súradniciach N 45° 17.460 W 122° 24.800 a zverejnil to
na internete. Na základe týchto informácií, behom 3 dní dvaja
nezávislí nadšenci našli túto schránku a zdielali
svoje zážitky na internete. V nasledovných týždnoch
další nadšenci schovali, zamerali svoje schránky a
publikovali na internete. Tak ako mnohé iné internet nápady, tak aj
tento zaznamenal rýchly vývoj. Behom mesiaca Mike Teague, prvý
ktorý našiel prvú schovanú stránku, zacal zhromaždovat
zverejnované súradnice z celého sveta a zdokumentovával ich a
publikoval na svojej osobnej web stránke. A odtial bol už iba
krôcik k zaciatkom www.geocaching.com. Samozrejme odvtedy
geocaching prešiel velkým vývojom. Okrem tradicných
skrýš zacali vznikat aj rôzne iné typy skrýš,
zakladatelia sa zacali predbiehat v prevedeniach a originálnostiach
skrýš, geocaching sa rozširoval rýchlo po celom svete
až sa z toho vyklula celosvetová zábava (viac o histórii
geocachingu nájdete tu). Podstata
však zostala rovnaká - hladanie krabiciek. A tomu je
venovaná aj táto cache.

On May 2, 2000, the American government stopped the
intentional degradation of the Global Positioning System (GPS)
signals available to the public. It ment that satellite-based
system began to provide accurate location and timing
data to public users worldwide.
Next day, on May 3, GPS enthusiast, Dave Ulmer wanted to
test the accuracy of these signals. The idea was simple: Hide a
container out in the woods, note the coordinates with a GPS unit
and seek the container using GSP coordinates. So on May 3, he
placed his own container with a logbook and pencil in the woods
near Beaver Creek, Oregon, near Portland (N 45° 17.460 W 122°
24.800). He shared the waypoint on the internet. Within three days,
two different readers read about this container on the net, used
their own GPS receivers to find the container, and shared their
experiences online. Within the first month, Mike Teague, the
first person to find Ulmer's container, began gathering the online
posts of coordinates around the world and documenting them on his
personal home page. The "GPS Stash Hunt" mailing list was created
to discuss the emerging activity. Names were even tossed about to
replace the name "stash" due to the negative connotations of that
name. One such name was "geocaching" (more about history of

could be considered as a born of geocaching. During the last 9
years geocaching went through a big evolution and has become a
worldwide game. .
This cache is dedicated to the basics of geocaching, which
remained the same: seeking boxes.
