Welcome to The Isle of Mist

If you believe perhaps you will get a glimpse of 1 of the many who live here in The Realm of Water.

Those that live here are the elementals of water which is the favorite haunt of the Water Faeries. Crossing through or over running water is a method by which their realm may be reached. Be warned that the size of the body of water is of little concern for the fae. Oceans, lakes, rivers, marshes, springs & pools are as likely as raindrops & teardrops to the harbor faeries.

Water Faeries heal & purify the Earth. Their presence is usually communicated through dreams.

As you wander through this small forest isle of mist be sure to stay alert because although water faeries are normally friendly there are some that aren’t & should be avoided. Masters of disguise their deception usually isn’t discovered until it is too late, if even then.

To help you know if you have encountered any of the Fae that live here let me tell you a little about some of them & what you might expect.

Undines exist within the water & cannot be seen with normal human vision though when they take form it is usually similar to humans, with the exception of those that live smaller streams & ponds. Undines clothing is shimmery, reflecting all the colors of water though green is typically the predominant color.

Mermaids are breath takingly beautiful woman from the torso upwards while their lower body is that of a fish, complete with scales. Men find their song irresistible & will follow them into the sea.

Mermaids can be caught & held in exchange for the wishes they will grant. Occasionally they are successfully courted by human men. Offspring of such pairing are often granted great powers of healing by their mothers.

Selkies are shape shifters & are also called silkies & they occupy the water. Their true forms are that of faeries or at times humans but they take the form of seals when traveling the oceans.

It is told that The great seal & grey seals can take human form though only on certain nights of the year such as Midsummer’s Eve or All Hollows. Occasionally when encountering humankind they will become their mates.

Fir Darrig, pronounced ‘fear dearg’ means red man. They are also known by Rat Boys, largely due to their appearance. They have dark, hairy skin, long snouts, skinny tails & are rather fat. Even their clothes look as though they have scrounged from the sewers.

Some legends hold that the Fir Darrig is an unlucky former human who wandered into the land of Fae by mistake & now attempts to warn others from making the same mistake. Despite this apparently good natured move, they revel in cruel & gruesome practical tricks which they play on those that make the mistake of irritating them. Fir Darrig also consume carrion as their main staple.

Most active in winter & found along polluted coastlines, in swamps, coastal ruins & marshes it is best to avoid these creatures at almost any cost. Should you happen to encounter Fir Darrig take great pains to be polite lest you become the victim of 1 of its cruel jokes.

Kelpies are shape shifters, occasionally appearing as humans though they can be distinguished by their seaweed hair which they are unable to change.

Tales describe Kelpies as web footed water spirits who possess the manes & tails of a horse & the body of a woman. Others say they appear as friendly seahorses who allow passing strangers to mount them, then drowning their hapless victims once they get away from shore.

These foul tempered denizens of the Fae are rarely seen today, a fact which is a blessing as humans are among the favorite meal of these cannibalistic faeries.

Kelpies can be captured by placing a bridle over their heads though due to the beast’s strength & willful nature is a difficult & dangerous task. However if this feat is accomplished the Kelpie will be forced to serve the 1 who bridled it.

So now that you have some idea of what may await you let your mind run free & walk the trail of what could be the experience few would believe. Take time to truly enjoy this little Isle of Mist, Realm of The Fae.

Please keep in mind that aside from this fantasy world we DO have some not so nice creatures that DO live HERE all of the time. Be aware of all around you but do ENJOY.
