Geocache Description:

Ankle Biter that does not bite your ankles!

Another in the Ankle Biter series but it is a bit "ABOVE" the other Ankle Biters. I have wondered what is the object on top of this pole? The train that came through Alachua was called the "Peggy" and that is why the road along side this cache is called Peggy Road. Enjoy the town while you are there. There are other caches and lots of good food.

This cache is not accessable to those that are mobility challenged but they can participate in the extra credit part of this cache. After you, or your mobility accessable companion, signs your name to the cache and logs it. You can get an "extra credit log" if you do the regular cache thing. Then relog a found and post a picture of the thing at the top of the pole. It would be nice if someone could tell me what the this is.

The Ankle Biters tend to get wet logs. Please replace if you have paper and PLEASE close the tube tightly. Thanks!

TB has sent the following speculation on the object

It APPEARS
- - that the bottom is an electric motor with the shaft vertical.
- - the next section up is a siren that has a very heavy metal mesh that goes all the way around (possible anti bird device)
- - the top appears to just be a rain hat.

I think that the device is an old siren for the town.

Does anyone agree?????

The real question is its purpose.

Do you think that it is left over from the cold war and is part of some type of attack warning system?

or

Is it just part of the alarm for a volunteer fire department?

or (and this is where you guys come in)

Are sirens like this used in train yards to warn the citizenry of chemical spills and the like. This area brings in a large amount of anhydrous amonia as fertilizer. or is it some sort of train signalling device??

Thanks for your thoughts.

Hawkhaven states that he thinks it is an ealy warninig device of sime kind. Ultra cool info....thanks
