May 2nd is not only CITO day but also
Take
Pride in America Day - a day to improve our public lands!
Bassway Strip WMA is home to The Lost Cacher Series of geocaches, a
night cache, and many other quality geocaches! Until the tragic
fire in March, the area hosted twenty geocaches! What better way to
improve such a popular location than to spend a few hours cleaning
it up for future use.
The Nebraska Game and Parks has asked that we concentrate our clean
up effort to the access road, parking areas and ponds - if we have
a big enough crew we can attempt to take on the shooting range as
well. We will meet at the posted coordinates - which are the main
parking area at the entrance to the large pond. NGPC will supply us
with trash bags and will remove the trash after the clean up, we
are responsible for all other supplies.
Work gloves are a must! Otherwise, the logical attire for
geocaching in the woods in early May should fit the bill.
As of right now we don't have any post clean up party planned, but
suggestions are welcome.
Wearing bright colors is a good idea. Although spring turkey season
is open, I don't anticipate to encounter any hunters near our
cleaning areas. The bright colors are good to help us see each
other and anyone else who happens to be driving around in the
WMA.
