Geocache Description:

This cache was placed with permission with permit number ALL187. It's a small Lock n Lock with a log book and a couple of trade items.

Science Lake was the first Lake to be created in the park. The $32, 00 project started on July, 17, 1926 and was officially opened on July 21, 1927. It was originally named Quaker Lake but the name would eventually be changed to Science Lake due to the proximity to Buffalo Science Museum Camp.
The massive ten ton block of sandstone with Allegany State Park sand blasted and hand chiseled into that is seen when entering the park on the Red House side of the Park was originally taken from Science Lake during construction.

FEE NOTICE: From Memorial Day through Labor Day there is a $7.00 entrance fee into the Park. The rest of the year it is $6.00 and only charged Saturday and Sunday.
