Tour of Towers - Plano, Texas Spring Creek Pwy.

Growing up in the Texas Panhandle I was fascinated with city water towers. The town’s water tower is an outward symbol of city pride and a convenient place to post bragging rights for athletic achievements. All small towns up there have something of honor on their water tower; usually the high school’s mascot but occasionally there is an honorarium to a famous former resident. But, all seem to have the list of “District/State Championships” achieved over the years, just in case anyone would possibly forget.
I think my fascination can be contributed to the fact you can clearly see the town’s water tower from almost any vantage point in those small towns, mostly because there are very few trees to obstruct the view.

Living in the metroplex for nearly two decades I still have a childhood fixation on water towers. But, they’re not the same around here as back home. Many towers are designed to blend into its surroundings so not to be too obtrusive. Most are neutrally painted and labeled with the only municipality’s name, not too fussy…just plain and simple.

I offer a series of finds that will take you on a tour of water towers. This series will grow as I come across more towers and get more caches to hide. My goal is for everyone to have a basic appreciation of the city water tower, no matter what it looks like.

Some caches will take you so close to the tower that you’ll feel as though you can touch it. Some caches will be a bit further away. But, all caches will give you a pristine look at the magnificent water tower. Take a few minutes to get a good look at the tower, I know it’s not much…some say an eye-sore, but in some strange way they do hold your attention - if only for a fleeting second.

Most caches are similar, but they are not all the same. It’s best to bring your favorite writing instrument.
