Another special place in Lac Du Bois Provincial Park that feels
semi-remote but is still close to Kamloops. After you find the
cache be sure to check out the natural feature about 50 meters
away. Locals often refer to this area as the Hanging
Valley.
There are a few ways into this cache; including entry points from
Mount Wheeler and Opax Hill. We parked at the northern end of Lac
Du Bois Lake and followed the road to the west. This makes for a
nice gentle 11-kilometer total hike in the valley, with a 45 to 50
meter elevation change at the end. In the future, I will be riding
my bike the 5 kms and then hiking down to the cache as this would
be the easiest way to complete this cache. When you get to the end
of the road you will need to use your route finding skills. Do not
cross the creek, there is a sloping trail that gets you down into
the valley (near blue ribbon). After climbing out of the valley
more exploring is recommended because we found a spring, an old log
cabin and a nice view that looks down the valley to the
Tranquille-Criss Cross Creek Road.
Please respect the posted rules as vehicles
are restricted to the main roads in Lac Du Bois Provincial Park.
The land north of Lac Du Bois Lake is now owned by the Nature
Conservancy of Canada and vehicles of any type are not allowed.
Others have driven to within 100 meters of the cache but this is
causing erosion and spreading noxious weeds throughout this rare
grassland. As geocachers, lets set a good example and obey the
rules!

Many thanks to Couloir and his hard work at Kamloops Trails!
