Geocache Description:

In this Earth cache you will be going to 2 different locations. Both locations will require a short hike to the beach and going down stairs to get there.

In this earthcache you will learn about a couple of different kinds of sand and how different beaches have different colors and sizes. You will want to bring a good magnifying glass with when you come.

Sand-It is usually made up of silica or quartz and hard rocks that have been broken down by waves crashing against rocks. It depends on the location and kinds of rocks. For example in Hawaii they have different kinds of rocks by the ocean than we have here in California so the sand here is different since there is more volcanic rock by there beaches. Also the sand on the east coast is different. It contains lots of decomposed coral. So their beaches are whiter. Another thing about sand is that during the stormy times of the year the sand is moved hundreds of yards off the beach and deposited in the water. In the summer when the waves are not as violent the sand gets slowly redeposited back on the beach. So in the summer months you would see more sand on the beach then you would during the winter months. The sand at these 2 locations is quite different then the sand that you would find along the ocean since the waves around here don't pound on it like the ocean waves do which makes that sand really fine.
in order to log this cache you will need to do the following:

1. So we know you visited both locations you will need to post 2 pictures with your GPSr. One from each location in your log.
