Romantischer Rundweg mit Einsicht in die Erdzeit
In der Zentraleifel, insbesondere dem Gerolsteiner Land ist man bestrebt, dem Wanderer und Naturfreunden die außergewöhnlichen Felsformationen, die eigenartigen Gesteine mit ihren Farben und Formen zu zeigen.

Als in der Erdneuzeit Berge und Täler durch das aufsteigen der Schiefergebirge geschaffen wurden und Vegetation auf die Vulkankegel kam, entstanden die, für die Eifellandschaft typischen Formen. Durch die verschiedenen Gesteinsablagerungen aus nahezu allen Zeitabschnitten der Erdgeschichte, gibt es in der Eifel einmalige, wertvolle Einblicke.
Von Vulkangestein bedeckt, ruht hier der Buntsandstein auf dem noch älteren devonischen Gesteinsgrund. Dort wo der Buntsandstein freigelegt ist entstanden durch Verwitterung und Wassereinwirkung sehr bizarre Formen, die auch das Aussehen der Landschaft prägen. Früher wurden die Sandsteine auch zum Verkleiden oder Bau von Gebäuden benutzt. Das Gebäude des Gerolsteiner Bahnhof ist ein Beispiel dafür.

„Die Eyffel hat ihresgleichen in der Welt nicht.“
Mit diesem 1100 m langen Rundwanderweg hat man hier eine Möglichkeit geschaffen, dem Wanderer die Waldromantik näher zu bringen und auch Einblicke in die frühe Erdgeschichte zu zeigen. An einigen Stationen kann man die Werke verschiedener Heimatdichter nach lesen. Auch sollte die idyllische Landschaft nicht ohne Beachtung bleiben. Bei entsprechendem Verhalten wird die Teilhabe am Waldleben ein Erlebnis für groß und klein sein. Bei meinen zahlreichen Spaziergängen in der Umgebung hatte ich schon oft die Möglichkeit die Bewohner des Waldes zu beobachten.
Bei der oben angegebenen Koordinate ist Platz für Euer Cachemobil. Auf der Tafel in der Nähe, seht Ihr den Verlauf des Rundweges. Haltet Euch bitte daran, dass Ihr den vorgegebenen Weg nicht verlasst. Die Wege sind befestigt und mit entsprechendem Schuhwerk gut begehbar. Folgt dem Weg hoch bis zu einem Wegweiser und der Infotafel, die Euch einiges über die Entstehung des Namen der Stadt Gerolstein verrät.
Der Weg links führt Euch zur Waldruhebank, von wo aus Ihr auf den Pirschpfad kommt. Nach dem Ihr die Umgebung ein wenig wirken lassen habt, beginnt Ihr über den Pirschsteig den Abstieg. Auf diesem Weg erreicht Ihr die Aufschlüsse der Buntsandsteine und kommt anschließend zum Parkplatz zurück.
