Geocache Description:

Another Yorke Peninsula hidden secret beach

This historic wheat port, originally called Curramulka Harbour, in the late 1870’s, developed as the nearest outlet where ketches could come to take on the wheat grown in the area. The bagged grain, carted on wagons, was hauled out to these ketches sitting on the bottom of the bay at low tide, & then raised directly into their holds-often a race against the incoming tide!
One of the first ketches to trade regularly from here was owned by a Mr. Wurm, who did much to develop this area, & he suggested that it be called after his wife Julia!
A private jetty was built in 1894 by a Mr. John Kerr, one of the bigger land holders in the district, & the area was to thrive until the 1950’s when the Barley Board established stacking sites for grain along the main roads, & those at Minlaton & Mount Rat gradually made the little ports redundant!
Today it is a growing community of folk enjoying their retirement here or even a ‘sea-change’!

Container is 1.2L Systema box originally containing

Mini torch keychain,
Agricultural Society's Council Keychain
Phone charm, Panda bear, stamper marker, numerous fish & dolphins & TB
