Au coeur de Toulon, le jardin Alexandre Ier offre d'agréables espaces de détente très appréciés des Toulonnais durant les chaudes journées d'été.
A la fin du XVIIIe siècle, l'actuel jardin Alexandre Ier appartenait à l'Hospice de la charité qui en louait une partie à la Marine.
Cette dernière y créa un jardin botanique dont il reste de nombreux témoins.
Parmi eux, un remarquable cyprès de Louisiane planté en 1797 et situé aujourd'hui dans l'enceinte de l'hôpital Chalucet.
En 1852, la Ville acheta le terrain et l'aménagea en jardin public.
Il fut appelé jardin Alexandre Ier en hommage au roi de Yougoslavie assassiné à Marseille en 1934.
Aujourd'hui, ce jardin public réserve sur 16 000m² des espaces ombragés, un kiosque à musique, un canal, un bassin, une statue du sculpteur Pierre Puget mais également un vestige archéologique, porte de l'église Notre Dame de Courtine à Six-Fours transportée là en 1876.

Hello At the heart of Toulon, Alexander I the garden offers a pleasant space to relax Toulonnais very popular on hot summer days.
