Geocache Description:

Shortish, scenic walk around Barbon with lots of clues to find the cache...

This lovely, short, circular, scenic walk around Barbon starts off at the church (co-ordinates, as above); you can park here. (If there are no spaces, you can park in the Village Hall (N54°14.119 W002°34.331) but will then have to go back to the church to get the first clue!)

Please note, the co-ordinates given above are those of the first clue and parking space opposite the church.

The co-ordinates of this final cache are given by the letters as follows.

N54°AB.CD
W002°E.FG

A: Opposite the church (where the cache owner got married) is somewhere to rest your weary feet (they shouldn't be weary yet though!). Find the difference between the first digit and last digit on Charles' sign.

B: Walk into the village; opposite the pub you will see a sunshine coloured house. Add 1 to the number of E's in the name of the house.

C: Walk towards the telephone box and look for the right noticeboard opposite. What is the 8th letter of the board owners (it looks like a number too)?

D: At the war memorial, find the difference between the starting year and ending year of the war where William Tallon died. Multiply this by 10 then minus 3 to give a two digit answer. This is the last part of the N co-ordinate.

E: Follow the road which heads away from the previous clues (Southbound). You will soon come to a library from Berkshire. Find the year this building was built. Add together the first three digits, then multiply by 2. This will give you E, another 2 digit number.

F: Keep walking past Churchmouse cheese shop/cafe where you can refuel with lunch or something sweet. Continue towards the recently rennovated Village Hall (where the cache owner had her wedding reception!); feel free to have a go on the swings! Look for Tom's bench and find the difference between the last two digits of the year Tom was born.

G: Nearly there! From the village hall, keep walking away from the village, taking the first left. Follow the path up Watery Lane (when it forks to the left). What is the maximum weight allowed here? Multiply this number by 11 and add 4. This two digit number gives your final co-ordinates.

Somewhere between now and the car, you will find the cache... Make sure you follow these directions:

Keep walking, just after calculating the co-ordinates, and take a look to your right and left; guess what used to be here until it closed in 1967.

Continue until you see a stile on your left and climb over. Cross the field heading back to the church. As a reward for your efforts, treat yourself to a very reasonably priced jar of tasty, homemade jam from the house opposite the church (follow the signs!)
