Follow Yacht Club Lane (off Queenston Heights) to the parking lot.
In March 2002, an ammo box geocache called The Fort GC46BE was hidden in the woods by Xas. It was archived in August, 2006 after 183 finds. Acting on a tip, I found The Fort in March 2009. I have rehidden this cache in the same area using its original ammo box as The Fort Returns!
Please use the parking coordinates. There is no access from Fort Henry. Parking is near the marina, just down the road from the playground and splashpark.
There is a trail which leads to the cache...no need to bushwack, just follow the trail. No bushwacking required. The cache is an easy stroll (about 250m from parking) along a scenic trail. However, the trail follows the top of a cliff, so use caution, especially when slippery. Because of the proximity to the cliff, this cache is not recommended for small kids or night caching.
To find the trail, continue south from the parking coords. It should take you near the water, along the top of a small cliff above the shoreline. You could also take the shoreline if you prefer (like if you have a dog who likes to swim), then climb up when near GZ.
Nearby are two excellent playgrounds, arrowhead beach, plenty of greenspace, and a small splashpark which is open all summer (free). Kids and dogs will really enjoy this area.
I was tempted to hide the cache in one of the many dangerous nooks of the cliff, but chose instead a simple hide close to the trail. Please be careful near the cliffs. Please use any available camo to rehide the cache.
