Knockelly Castle, Fethard, County Tipperary.
The building of this castle began in 1465 by Edmund Fitz James Butler for his second son. It was sited on the side of a hill at the entrance to the vale of St. Johnstown. The tower-house is surrounded by one of the most extensive and best preserved bawns in the country. The existing building has no roof but is otherwise in very good condition for a castle of it's age. The castle changed ownership many times over the centuries until bought by a member of the Heffernan family in 1808. It has remained in their care since.
The cache is a plastic film canister. BYOP.
