Geocache Description:

Another in the
Texas Spirit Quest
Cache Series

The Texas Spirit Quest
is a series of Caches
placed by many individuals, near cemeteries and historic
sites in hopes of paying respect to the many pioneer
ancestors that have ‘walked’ before us.

There are hundreds of cemeteries in the rural communities across
Texas. This series will introduce you to many of them. The cache
pages will provide a virtual history tour of the cemeteries,
tombstones and local lore.

MCKENZIE, TEXAS. McKenzie was on what is now State Highway 208 in extreme southeast Mitchell County, three miles north of the Coke county line. The settlement was named for F. S. McKenzie, who donated land for a school in 1908, and was largely abandoned after the school was consolidated with that of Colorado City about 1934. By 1966 only a cemetery remained at the location.
