Dr. Tinsley Harrison, sixth-generation physician, was born in this house and lived here as a small child. He moved, with his parents, to Birmingham when he was six years old.
Alabamian Tinsley R. Harrison (1900-1978), by some accounts, was one of the most influential physicians of the twentieth century. His worldwide fame rested primarily on his book "Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine", first published in 1950. The book has been reprinted 16 times and translated into 14 different languages. It became the single-most-used internal medicine text in the world and has sold more copies than any other such text in history. In medical circles it is referred to simply as “Harrison”
Harrison also served as the first chairman of the department of medicine and second dean at the Medical College of Alabama, now part of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). In that capacity he was responsible for beginning the phenominal growth of the University into the internationally-acclaimed medical center it is today. He did this through his leadership, through the respect he had already garnered in the medical community before he came to Birmingham in 1950, and by recruiting nationhally-known physicians from the faculties of such institutios as Harvard University and the Mayo Clinic.
The cache is of a designed adapted from rockmongrel at Obelisk. I have permission from the present owners of the house to place the cache, but please note that the cache is only accessible from the street side. There is no need to go into the yard.
