Geocache Description:

Cache is a small clip top box hidden on a footpath between Coombe Farm (near Fowey) and Polridmouth. There is room for a few small swaps and travel bugs/coins. Footpath involves a moderately steep descent down into Polridmouth. Regret that this is unsuitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

There is £1 for the FTF

Nearest parking is at Coombe Farm N 50 18 814, W 004 39 431 (NT, honesty charge applies). Alternative parking for a longer, mainly coastal, walk at Menabilly Barton N 50 19 727, W 004 40 553. Parking at farm, again honesty charge applies

On walk from Coombe Farm to the cache site there are lovely views of Polridmouth and over to Gribbin Head with it’s large red & white daymark.

Polridmouth (pronounced Pridmouth) is a beautiful spot with a nice beach, two in fact which are joined together at low tide, there are stepping stones which kids (even grown up ones) will love and a lake. A peaceful spot usually although the beach is popular on hot summer days. The picturesque cottage by the lake is on the site of an old watermill.

Some say that the ornamental lakes at the cove date from between the wars. During the Second World War they were used as a decoy site for nearby Fowey Harbour. Lights placed around the lakes were supposed to draw air attacks away from the real harbour around the corner (at Fowey), particularly during the build-up to D-Day when Fowey was bristling with 2,000 US Navy personnel preparing for embarkation.

Please note that there are no facilities at either Polridmouth or any of the car parks
