Geocache Description:

An easy quiz and a scenic paddle.

This cache is located along Milldam Creek and can only be reached via kayak or canoe. Milldam Creek passes through tidal wetlands that are further classified based on tidal properties and composition and structure of vegetation. In the eastern portions of the Creek you can find Wind-Tidal Oligohaline Marshes. To obtain the coordinates for the cache, you will have to find out which of the following statements about this ecological community is incorrect:
  1. These herbaceous wetlands are subject to irregular wind-tidal flooding along the shores of estuaries that have been cut off from oceanic influences by the closure of inlets. (N 36° 34.901' W 076° 4.461')
  2. In Virginia, these communities are confined to the North Landing and Northwest Rivers (tributaries of Currituck Sound) and Back Bay in the extreme southeastern part of the state. (N 36° 35.006' W 076° 4.578')
  3. Vegetation consists of a mixture of saltwater species and species more typical of mesohaline marshes. (N 36° 35.067' W 076° 4.635')
  4. Threats to the mid-Atlantic wind-tidal marshes include ditching, water pollution, boat wakes, and destruction by nutria, a naturalized exotic mammal. (N 36° 34.949' W 076° 4.319')
