Geocache Description:

Cache is NOT at the published coordinates!

Valdez needs some puzzles. This is not one of those really hard puzzles. This one will take a little bit of online research and then a little mathmatical problem solving to figure out where to go. How'd you do in Algebra class?

Solve for the following variables:

a = The length of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline in whole miles

b = The year that SERVS was established

c = The Peak Workforce, including Alyeska employees and contractors, reached in October 1975 during the construction of TAPS.

d = The year that the first oil flowed through the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System.

e = The year of the Discovery Well at Prudhoe Bay.

Now put it all together in these three equations:

When did they start putting letters with it?

You can check your answers for this puzzle on Geochecker.com, if you must.

This is a muggle area all year long, but especially when the fish are running in the summer. It shouldn't be too difficult to log this cache out of view. The cache is a camouflaged plastic jar elevated in a spot that will keep it winter accessible. The terrain rating is due to the precarious location of the container. Otherwise you can practically drive right up to it. Keep a sharp eye out for bears in the summer months! There are lots of them in this area, from little blackies up to the big brownies.

A little tip... the answer is in the raw decimal form. Y is the latitude in the form of 61.00000 and X is the longitude in the form -146.00000 (note the 5 decimal places). You can find all the history you need at the linked website. After that it's nothing but algebra.
