Geocache Description:

We wanted to set a group of caches around our local area to show cachers the highlights of Mold and that there's more to the town than its twice weekly market. There's a variety of roadside and public car parks are available (most from just 20p).

From this location you can see the Dolphin Public House. The present timber structure was built at the turn of the century and replaced a much older timber framed public house. No 86 High Street was a dwelling of Mid-Georgian date until the late nineteenth centure when it became part of the public house. The inn's name came from the crest of Sir George Wynne of Leeswood Hall who prospered during the early 18th century.

You are also located close to the lovely St Mary's Parish Church. Inside a late 13th/14th century tombstone indicates the duration of religious use of this site although it is believed it may have been earlier. Reconstructed many times over the years the most important of which was the rebuilding commissioned by Margaret Beaufort to give thanks for hwer son henry Tudor's victory at the Battle of Bosworthin 1485 to capture the throne of England. The earliest surviving part of the build are to be found in North Aisle or Lady Chapel. If the entrance is open the Elizabethan inner door to the South porch may be visible. Inside the church is the tomb of Richard Wilson, an important landscape painter of his generation who went on to become a founder member of the Royal Academy.

The High Street leads down the hill and was occupied by public houses, worker's cottages, shops and town houses for the gentry. Plas yn Dre, now used as offices and shops was the winter residence of the Wynned family of Nerquis Hall in the 18th century to avoid the need to travel by horse drawn coach at night.

The cache itself is a nasty nano I'm afraid but shouldn't be too difficult to locate as it's not deviously hidden although you will need to be careful of the many muggles here.

And finally a bit of trivia about a famous person from Mold – Jonny Buckland, guitarist for Coldplay, hails from nearby Pantymwyn and attended the towns main secondary school, The Alun.

PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU SIGN THE LOGBOOK WHEN YOU FIND THIS CACHE. WE WILL DELETE ANY LOGS WHERE THIS REQUIREMENT HAS NOT BEEN MET AS IT IS THE PROOF THAT YOU HAVE FOUND IT.
