The legend of the Rock:
In the early settlement days (1800's) travelling Gypsies (of Turkish origin ?) would set up a camp on the slope leading up to the rock. Then, from the top of the rock they would sell their wares to passing families.
There is no known written confirmation of this fact, however the local land owners have had the story repeated down through at least three generations.
