Geocache Description:

A short walk to the cache from a parking spot at Trascoed. THe cache is on Sustrans National Cycle Network route 82, that goes from Tregaron to Aberystwyth - we have put a couple of other caches on the cycle path and may put a few more, to make a nice string of them, so a cycling cacher can have a good caching day out.

This cache is called Kennel Bridge as it is located very close to the butresses of what was once a wooden footbridge leading from Birchgrove to dog kennels located up the hill. You can see the remains of the kennels from the forestry track that also starts at the parking spot, but you cannot get to them - there are only a few stones remaining now. Don't try climbing the walls of the cutting to explore - the sides could crumble away!
The bridge went over the Aberystwyth to Carmarthen railway, which was closed in 1963. To find out about the history of the old railway route and the
cyclepath, look here: (visit link) . The remains of the bridge (brackets, bits of wood and stonework) is about 10 meters to the north of the cache site.
The path itself runs up a slope and so may be tricky to get up for wheelchair users, although once at the top of the slope it is flat, but not smooth and the final retrieve could be troublesome too.

Please rehide well, muggles have interfered with this cache a few times.
Happy caching!!
