There are 40 pioneer cemeteries in Clinton County, Iowa. A prairie cemetery in Iowa is one in which there have been no burials in the last 50 years. There is local organization that has been attempting to restore dignity to overgrown pioneer cemeteries. They also are resetting many of the old grave stones.
