Geocache Description:

There are many ways to get to this cache, the quandary is you must to choose which one! It could take from 20 minutes to several hours....There are So Many options!

I was surprised there are no caches around the Whangarei Quarry Subtropical Gardens (hint, hint, nudge nudge ) so have been wanting to place some caches around it and along the Frank Holman Memorial track, and the surrounding Coronation Reserve for some time now, but it's been difficult to decide where to start...

But start I have! This, my 1st QQ placement, is very near the crossroads called "The Branches". It can be reached from several approaches... GZ is on a ridgline, so of course any path you take will include some uphill work.

There are trailheads leading from:
The Quarry Arts Centre -
( start off Selwyn Ave @ S35 43.260 E174 18.707) reported to take about 20 minutes to "The Branches" crossroads. *probably the easiest approach*

From the Quarry Subtropical Gardens - ( entrance off Russell Road @ S 35° 42.705 E 174° 18.545)
the most direct route also takes 20 minutes, but it's a bit trickier to find your way. It entails a 10 minute moderate warm-up ( go up the Centennial Kauri track * green trail on the map), then left, up the Coronation Reserve Link *blue trail (which is at least 5 minutes good puffing up root-steps plus another 5 minutes more moderate grade)

From Russell Road- new entrance & carpark area @S35 42.743 E174 18.880
If you are in for a short sharp huff & puff workout, you could start here; This route has a few rest-stop benches along the way with amusing names

From Western Hills Dr. - there is the "Rust Track" @ S35 42. 787 E174 19.029 with a parking & picnic area across the busy road. Also Beware! this approach is VERY steep and quite slippery when wet.

I'm hoping this cache will encourage myself and others to further explore the gardens & track network

Here is a little info gleaned from the WDC website...I am still hoping to find a better map as I Know there are more tracks than shown. (visit link)
Frank Holman Memorial Track 3.7km 2hr
Kauika Road West to Pa Site 2 750m 25min
Rust Track 450m 10min
Quarry to Pa Site 1 450m 15min
