Geocache Description:

WELCOME TO

THE 5th CACHE IN THE SERIES

Since I've been Geocaching, my son and I have had countless adventures while doing some great caches out on the trails, deep in the woods, and sometimes knee deep in the water! The purpose of this series is to get you out of the house, having Geocaching Adventures of your own. I hope this cache will help you do just that. But remember, you will have to follow directions to find this cache! I'm not very good at following directions as can be evidenced by my constant parking indiscretions while seeking caches and my usual lack of a pen when the cache clearly states "BYOP".

STEP 1 - Begin your quest in your vehicle at the posted coordinates. Proceed EAST down the "Lakewood Trail" until the "Trail" ends.

STEP 2 - Here you will see 4 Sentinels standing tall wearing red diamonds. This is where your journey begins on foot. Park and exit your vehicle here.

STEP 3 - On foot, proceed over the curb to the North where you will be presented with your first decision. The paved trail here goes in two different directions. Take the paved trail toward the NORTH pole.

STEP 4 - You will travel in this direction for approximately 1,342 feet where you will then reach the NORTH pole. It is WHITE and approximately 6 feet tall. You really can't miss it.

Step 5 - Stand at the NORTH Pole and face in a EASTERLY direction and begin walking again down the grass trail for approximately 275 feet until you reach a small intermittent creek crossing. The crossing has a large metal sign at the bottom which will allow you to cross mostly dry.

Step 6 - Continue down the path, following as it turns in a more NORTHERLY direction approximately 190 feet from the Crossing. Here you will be presented with another choice. (If you've reached the "No Tresspassing" sign, you've gone too far.) Turn right from the grassy trail to enter the woods and begin following the path heading mostly EAST once again.

Step 7 - The path will wind and twist and go up and down some hills at this point. Remain on this main trail for approximately 160 feet until you reach a clear "dip" in the path. Continue on past this dip to the next landmark.

Step 8 - Continuing on down the winding path, you will come to a LARGE oak tree that overhangs the main trail. This overhang will be approximately 120 feet from the "dip". Continue on down the path to the next landmark.

Step 9 - Still continuing on down the winding path, you will begin descending a large hill approximately 115 feet from the oak overhang. Carefully descend this hill, all the while remaining on the main trail. Once at the bottom of the hill, remain on the path until you reach the next landmark.

Step 10 - After following the path for another 230 feet or so (from the bottom of the hill), you will come to two LARGE dead, but still standing trees flanking each side of the path. At this point, you are only 175 feet from the cache.

Step 11 - Standing on the main trail between the two LARGE standing, dead trees, PROJECT a Waypoint at 29 degrees for a distance of 175 feet. Follow the trail for as long as you can, then once you are due SOUTH of the cache, there will be a light bushwhack for about 50-75 feet until you reach GZ.

Step 12 - FIND THAT CACHE!

Things to consider when hunting this cache:

1. The cache is not located on private property. If you've entered a yard or any other private property, you are in the wrong spot.
2. The cache container is a large black plastic jar decorated by my 9 year old daughter.
3. At certain times of year, several stages of this cache will be VERY wet and will certainly require some nice boots, so plan accordingly. Other times of the year, your trip will be dry the entire way.
4. Be careful about using the hint as it is a spoiler for the Letterboxing portion of this cache and will rob you of some of the fun of hunting this cache. You've been warned.
5. There is a stamp and a stamp pad inside the container should you choose to participate in the Letterboxing portion of this cache. You are also welcome to stamp your own stamp on the log if you so choose.
