Geocache Description:

Old Soldiers Never Die - Multi-Cache ------ Please be courteous and respect the sanctity of the grounds. They are only open during daylight hours and dogs are prohibited. Parking can be a challenge when classes are in session at the university. If you don't have a mobile app for GPX, use the print feature to print out the instructions or cut and paste into a text program.

This tour starts with a Confederate captain who bears the same name as the street upon which you entered. He served as the commander of Company F in an Alabama infantry regiment that fought at the Battle of Shiloh in April 1862.

The next visit is to LT(JG) Byron Yarbrough. He was a naval officer aboard an LCI(G) that was covering an underwater demolitions team at the invasion of Iwo Jima in February 1945. He was killed along with twenty other crewmembers and was buried at sea.

Here you will find Brigadier General James Henry Lane, CSA, who commanded a brigade of the Army of Northern Virginia during Pickett’s Charge at the Battle of Gettysburg, July 3, 1863. He taught mathematics at the Virginia Military Institute prior to the war.
